[Question]

HCI (5.2 Version) > Upgrade
Is that any impact on HCI 5.2 VM backup if upgraded to HCI 5.3 and above?
[Answer]

HCI versions 5.2 and below use snapshot-based backup technology, while HCI versions 5.3 and above use image-based backup technologies. After upgrading from HCI 5.2 to HCI 5.3 or a later version, all existing VM backups will be removed after the first backup is executed using the new image-based backup method.

Backup VMs on HCI 5.3 can be 3 minutes to boot up. Achieving VM restoration within 15 minutes.

Upgrading from HCI 5.2 to 5.3 and above will have no impact on existing VM backups. The backup mechanism and compatibility of backed-up VMs remain unchanged, allowing you to continue using your existing backup configuration without any issues. The upgrade will not affect the integrity or restorability of your backed-up VMs, ensuring a seamless transition to the newer version of HCI.

Yes, there will be an impact from that activity, because the node must be restarted which causes the business to be slightly disrupted at that time. Please upgrade when the service is not busy

3. VMware backup to HCI.
VMware VM backup and restore is made simple with Sangfor HCI 5.8.3. Through the same user interface, you can back up VMware VMs to Sangfor HCI manually or automatically. Scheduled backup policy can be set on a minutely, hourly, daily and weekly basis, minimum backup interval is 10 minutes. A full backup is done at the first time and sequent backups are executed incrementally using CBT (Changed Block Tracking) technology.
