Below are some uses of vmTools

▪ Improve the read/write IO of the network port and disk of the virtual machine

   - After installing the vmtools tool, the IO capability of the virtual machine to the virtual disk image can be
greatly improved, and reduce the performance loss of virtual machines accessing storage through the
virtualization layer.

▪ Report virtual machine information to the HCI platform, such as CPU, memory, IP address
and other information

   - After the vmtools tool is installed, information such as CPU, memory, disk, and IP of the virtual machine
can be transmitted. For virtual machines without vmtool installed, the information displayed on the page is
mainly displayed on the virtual machine details page, which is not transmitted through the virtual machine,
but transmitted by qemu.

▪ Special optimization functions: hot add resource, network connectivity detection, etc

   - After installing the vmtools tool, you can directly verify the communication between virtual machines or
between virtual machines and external networks on the virtual network page. Hot-adding of virtual machine
resources can only be supported after the vmtools tool is installed.

A cloud management platform called Sangfor HCI combines networking, computing, and storage resources. Virtual machines, or guest operating systems with full hardware system functionality and their own operating environment, are created by virtualizing servers and the resources of physical servers using the vmTools.

Installed client software in a virtual machine
Provide virtualIO drivers for the hard drive and network card.

 Give the Management Platform up-to-date information about how the VM is operating.

 Details about the virtual machine, including its IP address, traffic speed, CPU, RAM, and IO use

vmTools is a collection of utilities that enhance the performance and functionality of virtual machines running on Sangfor HCI. vmTools provides a variety of features, including:

Improved performance: vmTools optimizes the performance of virtual machines by providing efficient communication between the virtual machine and the hypervisor. This can result in improved I/O performance, faster boot times, and reduced CPU utilization.
Enhanced functionality: vmTools provides a number of features that enhance the functionality of virtual machines, such as:
Guest OS awareness: vmTools allows the hypervisor to be aware of the guest OS running on the virtual machine. This allows the hypervisor to provide more optimized services to the virtual machine, such as improved suspend and resume functionality.
Synchronized timekeeping: vmTools keeps the time on the virtual machine synchronized with the time on the hypervisor. This is important for applications that rely on accurate timekeeping, such as databases and financial applications.
Heartbeating: vmTools provides a heartbeat mechanism that allows the hypervisor to monitor the health of the virtual machine. This can help to prevent virtual machines from crashing or becoming unresponsive.
Tools for troubleshooting and debugging: vmTools provides a number of tools for troubleshooting and debugging virtual machines. These tools can be used to identify and resolve performance issues, as well as to diagnose problems with the virtual machine's configuration.

vmTools is an important part of the Sangfor HCI platform, and it is recommended that vmTools be installed on all virtual machines running on Sangfor HCI.
